Google offers some great tools to help marketers see where they stand in the online world.  This goes beyond SEO (Search Engine Optimization) into the realm of just seeing what the competition is doing and who is linking to your site.

All of these tools can be used by going to Google and entering in the phrases below.  Whether you’re the president of your company or the marketing director, this is a great way of discussing your web objectives with IT and non-IT members of your team.  It’s also a good way to track progress of PR and other marketing campaigns.

1.) link: www.yoururl.com — Type this in to see what sites link to yours

2.) info: www.yoururl.com — See what information Google has on you.  See if it’s correct.  See if it’s going to drive business to your site.

3.) related:www.yoururl.com — Who has a simmilar site to yours?

You can also use these tools to look at websites you’d like to emulate or to simply peek in on a competitor.

    That’s meant for you to literally insert your url in there — so it’s not a valid url itself…
